I flew in the woods for a bit until I was at
the spot I had teleported from. Sitting on the rock where I was before
was a tan man with messy blue hair. He gave me a disapproving look.
''You
know better than to go there. That was a close call. What if Amaya had
gotten to the castle a few minutes earlier?'' Souta threw a bar of soap
and some clothes at me. ''You reek.''
''Thanks? Anyways I had to
go. There was something I had to do. Besides, I saw how long Amaya was
going to be gone.'' I silently added, ''I didn't think you would catch
me.''
''You didn't have to go. You wanted to see him, that
bloodsucker.'' He said coldly. It seems any previous feelings he might
have had ceased. Now he was just doing his job. I went back to the inn
and washed then got changed. Souta waited for me outside the town and
when I caught up to him, he started to walk. ''We're going back to
Chikara.'' he explained. He broke into a run and I flew behind him. It
didn't take very long to arrive. This time my greeting was even colder
than before. Many werewolves glared at me and children were hidden
behind their parents. One could hear whispers of 'back stabber' and
'leech lover'. I was taken directly to the blonde chief and his
cushions. We sat down.
''So your mission failed, but this is okay. I
see you've brought me a present;'' he glanced at me. ''She will do.
You're dismissed, your punishment for your failed mission will depend
on how much of an asset this girl is.'' Souta rose and left. ''You do
realize that by staying with the vampires you have made enemies with my
kind.'' It wasn't a question but a statement. ''Now that you are here,
you will have to tell us everything that happened with the vampires and
what they are planning.''
''I have nothing to report.'' Was my only reply. He growled.
''I'll ask once more. What is their next move?''
''I do not know.'' Another growl.
''Fine
then, I cannot force you to tell me.'' He turned towards his two
brunette werewolves. ''Take the prisoner to her chamber.'' I followed
the two women down a couple halls into my bedroom, well it was more
like a renovated cell. It had a bed, a pool in the corner for bathing,
an open closet and a toilet. There was no ceiling and there were cracks
running along the wall. After the two werewolves left I flew straight
up.
''This is too easy.'' I thought and I was right. As soon as I
reached the top of the walls, I hit an invisible barrier and fell down.
''Fine,'' I thought. ''If I have to be a prisoner, I'll do it in
style.'' Vines started coming in through the cracks in the wall. They
covered the wall and grass covered the ground. Two trees grew in the
corners and connecting them was a hammock of vines. I laid down and
focused. I could see the werewolves again, but not attacking Amaya.
They were attacking me.
''We don't need her anymore.'' said the
chief. I was backed in a corner. The werewolves were all around me.
''Take care of her.''
''Yes master.'' Souta looked at me. ''You heard him boys.'' The werewolves jumped at me.
''At
least she's safe.'' I thought. ''But now I have to get out of here.'' I
concentrated again. I would have my chance soon. There was a mission
for me to go on. I went to sleep.
* * * * * * * * * *
I
was woken up by a knock on the door. Before I could answer the door
opened and one of the brunettes stuck their head in. ''Master wants to
see you.'' she said. ''I'll be back in five minutes to get you.'' I put
some real clothes on and brushed my hair. Then the girl was back. I
followed her too the room where the chief guy always is.
''I have a
mission for you.'' he said and I stayed silent. ''You're going to kill
a vampire named Hound. He is a ruthless murderer who drinks his
victim's blood and rips off their right arm. We thought that he was
destroyed by the humans but he has come back. You will track him down
and kill him.'' He gave me a piece of parchment with a sketch on it.
''This is what we believe he looks like. You are not to make any
contact with him or anyone in the bandit group which follows him. Kill
him on sight. He can't be allowed to kill any others.''
I nodded. ''I'll deal with him. When do I leave?'' I asked.
''You and Souta leave in two days. You will be allowed to use the training room to prepare yourself.''
''Souta? Why is he coming?'' My voice showed my surprise and anger. I hadn't expected this. It will make my escape harder.
''You
didn't actually think that we'd let our captive go alone did you?''
Souta had entered and was standing behind me. I glared at him and he
returned it with a sly grin.
''I'm going to train.'' I said and took
my leave. The lady showed me to the training room. It was nowhere as
complex as the one in the castle of vampires. It was as single room. I
asked her for some water, earth, air and an enemy. She brought in a
pail of water, a plant and a chipmunk. Then she opened the window.
''What is that?'' I pointed to the chipmunk.
''Its your enemy.'' she
said and left. I let the chipmunk out the window. I lifted the water
into the air and swirled it around a bit. This was going nowhere. I put
the water back in the pail. I looked at the plant. It happened to be a
Dionaea Muscipula (Venus fly trap). I gestured to it and it started to
grow. Soon it was so tall that it reached the ceiling and could
consider me for dinner. I moved the water again, this time shaping it
into a whip. I added a barrier of wind around it to make it stronger.
The fly trap snapped at me and I jumped aside. I extended my whip and
slashed a cut into what could be described as one of its faces. It had
multiple heads of a reddish tinge. Another head snapped at me. I used
my whip again. All of its heads would slowly snap as if it could taste
where I was in the air. It attacked again but this time with three
heads. I dodged the first two but the third caught me by the foot and
swung me around. I kicked it in the side but it wouldn't let go. My
whip lashed forward and wrapped around the stem of the head holding me.
I pulled tighter and fell. One of its heads had fallen off. A watery
liquid oozed from where the head had been cut off. I had three heads
left. It tried the same thing again and I slashed the first head again
so it now had an 'x' shape on it. I changed my water whip into a
two-handed sword. I ran to the base of the plant while dodging its
three heads. I reached the base and hacked at one of the stems. It
caught me by my baggy shirt. I took part of my sword and changed it
into a boomerang which finished off the second head. I was thrown into
the air and caught around my waist. The boomerang came back but my arms
were stuck. I created a barrier around me and quickly expanded it so
that the fly trap's mouth was forced open so much that it broke and
laid on the ground with its other parts. I took this pause to heal
where the trap's strong saliva has burnt me. The only head left was the
one with the 'x' on it. It would have been looking at me if it had
eyes. There was an awkward silence. I showed it my open palm and when I
closed it into a fist, the trap returned back into a baby sprout
looking as good as new. The water returned to the bucket. I opened the
door and exited. The brunette was waiting for me. I asked for a firing
range. I was taken there. The targets were fifty meters away. I brought
out my bow and fired. I easily made the bulls eye. There was a man
beside me who made it too. He raised his eyebrow at me. I raised it
back and he gestured to some of the people who worked there. They
removed the fifty meter targets. Behind them were seventy-five meter
targets. I easily made it. Next were one hundred meter targets. This
was harder. I got inside the bulls eye though and he did too. They were
removed again. This time there was only one target in the middle of us.
He took aim. He held his arrow for a long time occasionally changing
positions. After around five or ten minutes he finally fired. It was an
almost perfect bulls eye. I lifted my bow, took about thirty seconds
and fired. The arrow flew straight. I saw it falter and flicked my
eyes. A slight wind blew it about a millimeter so it was back on
course. It hit the bulls eye, splitting the man's arrow in half. He
glared at me and swore under his breath. He marched off. I sent a few
more arrows flying before I called it a night and went to sleep.
The
next day I went to the tailor and had him make me two black leather
outfits. He said they would be done before I leave. Then I was allowed
to go to the town with Souta as a supervisor. I said nothing to him the
whole time. I bought a black leather backpack and some pens and
parchment. He didn't ask what they were for, but made strange
expressions when I bought them. He followed he to the outside market. I
gave him my stuff to hold. I bought some strawberries, chocolates and
milk along with necessities like bread and vegetables.
Souta finally said something. ''We can provide you with these. You don't have to buy them.'' he said.
I
answered him back. ''The werewolves might do something to it because
when this is over I won't be needed anymore. Its better to kill me than
to keep me around long enough for me to go back to Amaya.'' I added,
''And I like making you carry stuff.''
He smiled at the last part
but only to cover his surprise at me knowing what the werewolves were
thinking. He must have forgotten I could see the future. I found a few
black bandanas and a black canteen to hold my water. We went back to
the building I was kept in. I went into the training room and put the
sprout of the Venus fly trap into a small black drawstring bag. I went
back to the tailor who gave me the black outfits. I put one on and put
the other in the backpack. The canteen and plant hung along my waist.
This outfit was a simple black pants with a black jacket. I tied the
bandana around my neck so I could pull it up over my face if needed. I
slung the backpack over my shoulder. There was some money in it along
with the other things I bought. Souta showed up. He was wearing black
too. I laughed at him.
''Trying to disguise yourself?'' I asked.
''Won't work with that werewolf stench. Remember this is a vampire I'm
hunting. You better not give me away.'' I started walking. He said
nothing and followed me. I sped up and left the ground. He was running
below me.
We arrived at the border that night and went over to
the human world. We camped out on the beach. The next day we went to
the closest populated town and tracked the latest victims' locations to
try and get a hint of where he was. After a week we had tracked him to
one of two towns. I had found a vampire who was one of his bandits and
had been following him. He led me to the first town. It was rundown. I
saw him enter the abandoned church which had two guards outside it. We
waited until night. This time I was wearing the other outfit. It was
black pants with a ripped skirt over them. I had a black tank top on
with the same ripped pattern of my skirt making it into a t-shirt. I
pulled the bandanna over the bottom half of my face. My hair was pulled
back by a black ribbon. I was going to find him tonight. I could feel
it.
''Let's go.'' I said to Souta. ''You go in from the back. Your smell might give me away.'' He eyed me curiously but followed my order. He was wrong to think I wouldn't try to run away. I ran up the wall of the gate surrounding the village and jumped off it to land softly on a rooftop. I made sure I was slightly hovering off the rooftop so I wouldn't make any noise. I ran towards the church and crouched when I landed on one of the lowest rooftops. I brought out my bow and arrows. The village was silent. Something was up. The guards weren't posted at the entrance like usual and the inside looked empty from this position. I glided to outside the window. I couldn't see anyone so I went inside. It was completely empty except for a few bodies on the ground. A few were burnt. The smell of burning corpses made me unconsciously back away. Something hit my foot. It rolled to the side and I could see Hound's twisted face. My stomach lurched. I walked backwards, watching the bodies until I was outside.
There was a sound behind me. A few vamps were running away. I knocked my
arrows and let them fly. My regular arrows caught them where their
hearts were and my special ones sliced their heads off. The special
arrows had an extra wide head which I infused with my wind ability to
make them sharper. Their heads bounced against the hard dirt. I heard
someone fighting and started to head over to them when my view wasn't
mine anymore.
A flaming figure of a woman was standing
in front of me. Her head was tilted to the sky and her arms flung up
wth her evil laughter. She threw her arms up again. The background
matched her skin in flames and exploded.
I
came back to reality and realized how close I was to the church. The
laughter started. ''Shit!'' I swore and kicked off the ground as fast
as I could. I imagined her throwing up her arms and pushed myself
harder. I was still too close. I screamed. The church behind me was on
fire than it exploded. Luckily the blast pushed me far enough away that
I didn't get hurt. I looked back to see the flaming mass behind me.
Something came shooting out of it. At first I thought it was just some
debris but it turned around and saw me. It was the flaming demon. Her
reddish purple eyes met mine. I swore again and spun around flying
faster. My weapons returned to my bracelet and I used the wind to help
me get away. The demon was catching up. I felt the heat of its magma
skin on my back before it tackled me to the ground. I hit the ground
and felt my rib snap. My eyes shot open. My skin was burning where she
was making contact with me. She was too strong to push off. I opened my
eyes and saw something familiar. A face just like mine, except for some piercings and the fact that it was on fire. She pressed up against me
hugging me again. The pain Amaya dealt made me tear up.
''Ow.''
I said. She replied with a sorry and got off me. I focused on healing
my burns. I hadn't learned how to heal bones yet. I started to apologize
to her but her eyes had a dead expression. She must have been using
clairvoyance. I'll have time to explain to her later. My sight changed
again. It was from above us this time.
There was a rustling sound in the bushes. Souta wasn't very far off. He had some other werewolves with him who caught Amaya's vampire scent and were coming closer. They quickly surrounded us. I grabbed Amaya's arm.
''We
have to go now.'' I said. ''Souta and some more werewolves are headed
this way.'' She let go of me and I heard the rustling sound. My eyes
widened. ''Its too late.'' I whispered. We were surrounded.
''Destroy them.'' he said. The werewolves jumped at us in the wooded
area. The clashed with us. I could hear us being torn apart.
I swore again. ''We have to go now Amaya.'' her eyes were still dead.
''Amaya!'' I shouted. She didn't reply. I reached out to grab her but
stopped because something glittering had caught my eye. The wardrobe
charm on my bracelet shined in the light given off by my flaming
sister. I looked up at her because I had gotten an idea.
''Amaya, I need you to hug me.'' I knew this was going to hurt afterall
she was still a mass of magma. Her eyes flicked back to life. She
looked confused. ''Amaya, hug me, no questions. Don't let go.'' She did
it. We were surrounded by werewolves. I felt the light engulf me hoping
Amaya felt the same. The last thing I saw in the forest was Souta step
out of the bushes. I stuck out my tongue.
We were surrounded by darkness. I felt her let go of me. The burns where her arms had been stung more than the rib. Amaya asked me what I did. I pushed on the walls until one opened. We were back in my room. It was very messy with a torn black bag and everything that was in it on the ground. I focused on my burns healing them. My rib was still throbing. I placed my hand on it. I could explain to Amaya when it didn't feel like I was going to die. Amaya made her way to the door. I saw it go flying before something cold and hard tackled me into the bed. I felt myself fade away.
